第6回札幌国際短編映画祭
When: October 5th - October 10th, 2011
Venue: Main Theater/ Sapporo PLAZA 2-5
Address: Tanuki-koji 5, Nishi 5, Minami 2, Chuo-ku, Sapporo
I came across this poster just the other day at Tanokikoji and the image drew me towards it. I like the whole vibrant green contrasted with the black and yet has a tad of strangeness effect added to it.. it emits a sort of 'Tim Burton', 'Lewis Carroll' and 'Ghibli' aura to it.. that it just feelssss.......hmmmm.......very strangely beautiful..
I couldn't do a better job in expressing myself, sorry bout that... but i guess the right way to say it is....
it makes me feel a little trippy... hehe
Sapporo Short Fest 2011 |
Without any hesitation, I had the event plotted down for that week's plan.
What is Sapporo Short Fest 2011? Click HERE to access their official website. (English site is available)
The festival has many categories of short film. Ranging from 'Hokkaido Selection' to 'International Programme', there's bound to be one that is suitable for everybody. I wasn't so much in the mood to catch the National programmes so I narrowed down my choices to International programmes instead.
Obligatory photo of moi at the event (: |
Outside Sapporo Plaza (main theater film screening) |
Dino joined me on this quest that Friday night. My initial plan was to go for the 'ALL NIGHT PROGRAM' that offers 4 categories of short film starting 10:30pm and ends at 7:30am the following morning. Sounds like a neat idea at first, but in the end, we decided against it cos we're afraid that we might not last through the nite... sign of old age.. *cough cough*
Dino inside the screening hall |
Coincidentally, while chatting with Chevere earlier of the day, he also decided to tag along with us to the festival. He even brought a friend to join us. The more the merrier. (:

We all agreed on the 'Eclectic' category. Yes, so obvious that we're a bunch of people who loves doing random stuff.. Eclectic suits us just right.
List of the short film for this category as below:
'Sugar' by Jeroen Annokkee, Netherlands
'Paths of Hate' by Damian Nenow, Poland
'The Legend of Beaver Dam' by Jerome Sable, Canada
'Yuri Lennon's Landing on Alpha 46' by Anthony Vouardox, Germany, Switzerland
'Catharsis' by Cedri Prevost, France
'Lin' by Piers Thompson, UK
My favorite amongst the films listed above were 'Sugar' and 'Catharsis'. Click onto the links to watch the trailers.
Event goers of that night (: |
interval breaks between programmes |
All Night Pass (¥3000)- entitled to watch 4 programmes consecutively One of Chevere's fren bought this pass instead |
Our red carpet moment.. LOL..
Dino looking all good on the red carpet floor wearing... errm NOT Tom Ford's creation |
Anyway, while we were lingering about at the lobby area talking to some mutual frens Chevere bumped into, suddenly our group got introduced by one of the director of the short film being showcased at the event. The aforementioned director was Damian Samuels.
Chevere did admit that Damian looks pretty familiar and soon found out that Damian holds many professional portfolios namely actor, writer, producer and director.
The short film, FISH! in which he directed was being showcased at the Sapporo Short Film Fest 2011 and he flew in from the states just to attend it.
think Dino got star- strucked.. LOL |
The film director obliged my request to pose with him |
Chevere joined in along the fun (: |
All in all... it was a fun Friday nite and I am just gonna end this post with this super awesome music video that Chevere shared with me after he googled up more about Damian Samuels. LOL. Enjoy...
"The freedom of the short film relative to the long film lies in the possibilities of using metaphor and other literary devices to tell the story, a luxury not available in the commercially driven, realism-oriented long film."
